For the first time Hui Makaala is now online!  We hope this website will serve as a good resource for our members as well as allow scholarship applicants greater ease in obtaining our application. It is hoped that the website will grow and additional content will be added over time.  (VMK)

The October 2008 newsletter is available for download on the Newsletter page or directly in PDF format here.   Fashion show tickets were mailed on October 17, 2008 so our guests to the fashion show should be receiving their tickets soon!  (VMK)

Whew!  Now that the Fashion Show is behind us, I've updated the 2008 Fashion Show page to include photographs of the event.  It is located here.  Note, there were a couple of lost items at the Fashion Show.  If you lost any item, please be sure to email info@huimakaala.org.  My next project will be to update past events.  If you have any comments, please feel free to email me at president@huimakaala.org.  Thanks!  (VMK)

Updated with the 2009 Scholarship Application here.  Also added some information on a tour to Okinawa sponsored by Ozato Doshi-Kai, a fellow HUOA member club, here.  The tour will be from October 4 through 14, 2009 and features many interesting cultural highlights such as a visit to Shuri Castle, Himeyuri Museum, and a chance to see the Naha Matsui Parade with the Rope Tug-of-War (which the Leadership Tour in 2007 missed due to a weather-related cancellation).  This seems like a fun and comprehensive tour to Okinawa for those who have not yet travelled there.  Finally, now that 2008 is coming to a swift end, it is time to begin the presidency of Rena Takushi and the change to a new board and officers.  If you are interested in serving on the Hui Makaala executive board or otherwise want to become more active in the club, please send an email to president@huimakaala.org. We encourage you to become active!  (VMK)

Happy New Year!  Updated calendar and added link for Hui Makaala Installation Banquet reservation form.  Also available,here.  Please join us in installing Rena Takushi as President.  The Fashion Show is set for October 18, 2009 and will be chaired by veterans Karen Shishido and Patsy Takaesu.  This year's show will feature designer Kanna Yamauchi of Okinawa, Japan. Happy Valentine's Day!  Added UOY information and updated the format on the home page as well as the calendar.  Thank you to the Hui Makaala Board and Officers for electing me Hui Makaala's Uchinanchu of the Year.  It is quite an honor.  (VMK)
